NEWS: Politican Bribe police officer gets charge with corruption charges

 

DIRECTOR of Public Prosecutions Paula Llewellyn has ruled that a senior cop, a politician and a well-known businessman be charged with perverting the course of justice.

According to information received , the businessman at the center of the debacle was pulled over by a police officer and ticketed for a driving offense. The businessman, who allegedly , offered the cop $2,000 to drop the charge. But, the cop rejected the offer and proceeded to cite the businessman with bribery.

However, a call was made to the politician who then called in the senior policeman — a superintendent. Both attempted to press the police officer to let the offense slide, the Observer was told.

Those attempts were however staunchly resisted by the police officer. According to a well-placed source, the senior cop then signed a document in the stead of the officer indicating that the case had been dropped in a last-ditch attempt to prod the junior policeman to brush the offense under the carpet.

The matter was, however, reported to the Anti-Corruption Branch of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, resulting in a file being prepared and handed to the DPP who subsequently ruled that the three be charged with corrupting the course of justice.

The summons are expected to be served today and the three are likely to face the court tomorrow.
