A Ministry of Education directive requesting that all students and teachers report to school on Independence Day, Monday, August 6, 2012 for a planned Jamaica 50 celebration is not going down well with some education stakeholders.
The request is contained in a July 6 bulletin, from Acting Chief Education Officer Clement Radcliffe, and addressed to Board Chairmen, Regional Directors and Principals of Public Primary Educational Institutions.
Mr. Radcliffe wrote that as part of the Jamaica 50 celebrations, ALL students and teachers are asked to be at school on Independence Day, Monday, August 6, 2012. On this day, The Ministry is imploring all schools to plan a special two-hour ceremony from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.under the theme “Jamaica 50, A Nation on a Mission”.
Students should be clad in school uniform or the Jamaican bandana.
