Carnival season is over, but who says parties cannot carry a J'Ouvert idea in the heart of the summer? Twin Stars Entertainment is gearing up to host Rum-Bar Water Vs Paint, which is expected to give patrons a double dose of entertainment.
The event is liquor inclusive, courtesy of title sponsors Rum-Bar Overproof Rum and according to Jenice Cunningham, representative of Twin Stars Entertainment, summer is about overdoing the concept of enjoyment.
"We have hosted water parties before and the success has been great, but for this event, we want to deliver two experiences in one because it's summer and for this season, Jamaicans are known to go hard and done," Cunningham said.
She also said that paint erases stereotypes and brings partygoers together. "Based on most J'Ouvert parties that I have been to, I observed that patrons are more cohesive and united because the paint conceals whatever separates people, so to speak, and at Water Vs Paint we want our patrons to jam together. After all, it's Jamaica 50," Cunningham continued.
"After Bacchanal J'Ouvert, we don't really have many parties on the calendar which deliver that experience and we recognise there is a market for that. At this point, our goal is to reach out to those people who love the J'Ouvert experience," Cunningham said.
Water Vs Paint will be hosted at Stones Jerk Hut and Lounge, Braeton Parkway Portmore Pines, Portmore, on Sunday, August 5. The party is expected to start from as early as 4p.m.
Ladies will be admitted 2-4-1 before 6 p.m., while men will be charged $1,000 for the entire night. Rum-Bar Wata Vs Paint will also carry a VIP upgrade feature, where patrons can receive exclusive access to premium liquor by paying an additional $500 for a ticket upgrade.
The DJs for the night include DJ Nicco, ZJ Wah Wa and Portmore-based DJ Six Killa. Cunningham said her choice of disc jockeys was strategic. "ZJ Wah Wa and DJ Nicco are young and vibrant. They are also familiar with the musical content that the youth want to hear and that is what we want to give them. DJ Six Killa is based in Portmore and would create some familiarity with the patrons, so I believe we have the perfect strategic combination," Cunningham said.
The venue has its own parking area staffed by security personnel. Cunningham said the party area can hold up to 2,000 patrons.
Cunningham encourages patrons to drink with responsibility, saying that free liquor is not an excuse to get drunk. "This event is Rum-Bar sponsored and, therefore, its liquor inclusive, but our patrons are important to us so we are asking them please drink responsibly and don't indulge in more than you can manage. Not because liquor is free please don't overdo it. We will have a detox area that will cater to people who might get intoxicated ... . Otherwise just come out and have some good clean fun," Cunningham concluded.
